Celebrating 50 years of Education, Training and Competition
That's the theme of our 50th anniversary activities this year. Our 50th committee (Eileen Pearl, Louise Day, Mary Bean and Chuck St. John) has met and has a number of activities in the planning stages.
The first event, a booth at Kids Day in the Park May 1, will draw attention to the Wenatchee Kennel Club and the classes it offers. Club members can sign up to come work in the booth with one of their dogs to help teach kids how to properly meet a dog. Other activities relative to dogs such as brushing, teeth grooming, trimming nails, etc. may be addressed, depending on the crowd. Apple Blossom Festival staff estimate some 5,000 kids and their parents attend Kids Day.
Sometime in late June an events-oriented activity is being planned. This might include demonstrations on all the activities we teach or compete in with our dogs…agility, obedience, Rally, conformation, tracking, nose work, free style, DOGA, etc. We also might have a practice competition for people who attend. The focus on this is to give the public ideas of things they can do with their dogs and the classes we offer.
And what would a 50th anniversary be without a party? An open house type event is in the works at the Training Center for current and past WKC members, class participants, past class members and others. This will focus more on the accomplishments of the club itself over the years. Think birthday cake, refreshments, slide shows, displays of past shows, member memories and lots of reminiscing. A fun, social event.
In September and October we have the dog show and agility trials which will also have opportunities for calling attention to the Wenatchee Kennel Club and its rich history.
And of course you'll get more details as they are available. If you have ideas, feel free to contact one of the committee members!
