Frequently Asked Questions
Must I be a member of WKC to sign up for a class?
Not at all! Anyone can take a training class.
Does my dog have to be a purebred?
No, mixed breeds and all breeds are welcome.
Where are the classes held?
We are in the process of building our own training center in East Wenatchee that will be completed in 2018. Until then, we are scheduling classes at 2 different locations. Some of our classes are held in a heated indoor building at the Appleatchee Riders facility at 1130 Circle Street, other classes are held in a covered but unheated horse arena at Metcalf Ranch, 1293 Lower Sunnyslope Road. Check the schedule!
How large are the classes?
Most classes are limited to 8 dogs to ensure that there is sufficient space for everyone and that each handler-dog team receives ample attention from the instructor.
At what age can dogs come to class?
Experts on dog behavior and training recommend that puppies start class at 12 weeks old. Consult your veterinarian for his or her advice for your dog. Please note any age restrictions in the class description before signing up for a class.
When does the next class start?
There are six class sessions during the year: January-February, March-April, May-June, July-August, September-October, and November-December. Generally, classes begin the first week of every other month. One exception is Junior Puppy Class, for which a new class begins the first week of every month. The upcoming class schedule is posted by the 17th of the month prior to a new class session. For example, the May-June schedule would be posted by April 17th.
How do I sign up for a class?
Currently we do registrations by mail. Download and print a registration form, fill it out completely, and send it to WKC with your check or money order. The address is on the form. Soon we will provide a way to register and pay online.
Can't I just show up?
No, please do not just show up for a class. The class may already be full. You also will not have received instructions about what to bring to the first class. Our instructors do not have time to deal with students who have not already registered. Please register far enough in advance so that we can send you a confirmation.
How do I know if I got into the class?
Check the website for your dog's name on the Registrations Received page. We will also send you a confirmation by email or snail mail. The confirmation will include directions to the Training Center, instructions about what to bring, and more.
What equipment will I need to bring for my dog?
This depends on which class you are taking. Once you register we will be sure to let you know what to bring with you.
I have more questions. Is there anyone I can talk to?
You are welcome to leave us a message at 509-886-DOGS (886-3647). We can usually respond within 24 hours.
